Pictorial History of St. Vincent's Home in Quincy, Illinois

Starting from the beginning, the original St. Vincent's Home...Circa mid 1880's

In 1968 a new facility was built adjacent to the original home of 1884.  If you look to the
right side of the picture below, you can see the 1884 STV in the background.

The pictures below are of how the facility looked when Wayne Messick
purchased it in 1990.

Wayne acquired the OLD St. Vincent's home with the intention of demolishing it to build
Independent Living Units - known as Catherine Kasper Village.  The pictures below are
of the demolition of the original STV of 1884.

Great care was taken to save the statue of St. Vincent DePaul atop the 4th floor of
the 1884 St. Vincent's Home when it was taken down.  That same statue now sits at the entrance
of the current St. Vincent's Home.

After the 1884 STV was finally demolished and removed, construction began on the
independent living units.  The aerial pictures below show the first few cottages being built.

When the first cottages were built, we also built the Catherine Kasper Community Center.
It sits between the cottages and the home.

This is what an Independent Living Unit looks like today.  We have added many cottages
since the first few have been built.  Currently we have 24 units.  For more pictures see the
Independent Living Page.

In 2002 we added Casita Catherine Assisted Living.  It has 10 units and you can get more
information by visiting the Assisted Living page.  The pictures below are of when it was
being built.

We have upgraded our roof structure, parking lot, entrance area, and landscaping over
the course of 17 years and this is what St. Vincent's home looks like today.
